Astral travel can occur in deep meditation or lucid dreaming and the experience, which transcends time and space, is often illuminating or life changing.
The out of body experience is another form of astral travel. This is spontaneous but consciousness doesn’t travel as far, and the traveller is usually able to view their own body.
OBEs can occur in times of crisis or near-death. Those who return from a near-death experience often talk of meeting loved ones on the astral plane.
Remote viewing is a further form of astral travel but this experience is actively sought, usually with a specific location in mind.
Just as our astral body is the energy equivalent of our physical body (visible as the human aura), so the astral plane is the energy counterpart of our material universe.
Every thought and action is said to be recorded on the Akashic realm of the astral plane. Other realms, connected to art, literature, and music, are said to be rich with uplifting inspiration.
A medium extends consciousness to commune with those who have departed to the astral realms. Great artists may draw their inspiration from the astral plane in the same way.
It’s difficult to describe the awesome wonder of astral travel with material words, but William Wordsworth said it beautifully when he wrote: “I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o’er vales and hills...”
